Archiving transfers data from an active server to a backup system to free up space, enhance performance, and ensure data is available for future retrieval and auditing. For instance, when your organization releases builds for various devices, you need a reliable way to store those builds for reference. This can be achieved by offloading the builds to an archive instance.
Typically, an archiving setup consists of a server handling current operations, which can be either cloud-based or locally hosted in your company’s data center connected to an active storage and archive storage.
Archive in JFrog
The JFrog Archive solution facilitates the movement of stale artifacts from an Active Artifactory instance connected to an Archive Artifactory instance, connected to a low-cost cost-effective storage solution. This allows organizations to retain artifacts for regulatory compliance while optimizing storage costs.
Archive Policies enable Platform and Project Administrators to define customized rules for archiving stale artifacts based on specific criteria across the JFrog platform. This approach offers the following benefits:
Reduced storage costs: Frees up valuable storage space, resulting in lower costs by eliminating unnecessary items.
Boosted efficiency: Enhances system performance and improves loading times within the JFrog Platform.
Enhanced user experience: Minimizes the number of items to navigate, saving time and improving overall user experience.
Ensure compliance: Ensures compliance by archiving artifacts and restoring them when needed.
